Engine 203base 2 responded to the Westport Marina to assist East Lincoln Fire Department with a large double-decker boat that exploded while being refueled. It had just docked from a afternoon graduation party. There were still five people on board the boat when the incident occurred and were blown into the water. Four either swam or were pulled to safety except for one. He is still missing. East Lincoln Engine 30 arrived on the scene to find heavy fire and smoke showing from this large boat. Engine 203 dropped its front suction line into the lake and started drafting water to supply East Lincoln Ladder 31. There is a concern over spilled fuel and the safety of rescue workers in the area. Up to 150 gallons of gasoline spilled into the water. Divers didnt go in for at least 3 hours after the blast and searched for about two hours until it got too dark to continue Tuesday night. The search will continue Wednesday morning. Departments that responded were East Lincoln DenverAlexisand Gilead. Engine 203 operated for 2hrs before returning back to service. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims family.
