Engine 200 responded to assist Stanley Fire Department for a reported fire at the DSM Desotech Plant on Hwy 27 South Tuesday morning. Engine 200 arrived on the the scene with Engine 223 from Stanley to find smoke showing from a vent in the rear of the building. A second alarm was then struck. Engine 200s crew entered the building to find a chemical reactor like a mixing vat that had some chemicals inside that got hot. The fire was quickly extinguished by a foam extinguisher. No one was injured in the fire that brought six departments and eleven trucks. Other units that responded were from East Gaston Lucia-Riverbend City of Gastonia Haz-Mat Team and the Gaston County Fire Marshals office.
