WOODS FIRE KEEPS UNITS BUSY MOST OF THE DAY (GASTON CO)

 February 10, 2008

As high winds moved across the region today it helped fuel a woods fire off of Alexis-Lucia Rd in our first due. At about 1315 hrs stations 20 Alexis 31 Lucia-Riverbend 30 East Gaston and 22Stanley was dispatched to a woods fire threatening several structures with winds blowing about 25 mph sustained and gust up to about 30 to 40 mph. Upon Engine 201s arrival the crew found an active woods fire spreading rapidly and was threatening 4 structures. Brush 207s crew positioned it self between one of the structures and 201 positioned itself at another then 203 positioned its self at another structure beside 201 and had a small outbuilding on fire crews stretched a hose line and contained damage to the outside of the outbuilding and no contents were damaged. Command called for additional manpower brush trucks and tankers. In all there were 8 structures that were threatened by this woods fire all the crews worked diligently to contain the fire. A bulldozer was brought out by the NC Forestry Service to cut a fire line around the perimeter of the fire. In all there was 12 acres involved in the fire. The fire was called under control at 1630 hrs. Units remained on the scene until about 1900hrs. Alexis would like to thank all the departments that responded they are as follows From Gaston County we had Station 31 Lucia responded with 2 brush units and a tanker. 30 East Gaston responded with a squad an engine company and a brush unit. 22 Stanley responded with a tanker. 18 Spencer Mountain responded with 2 brush units and a tanker. 21 High Shoals responded with 2 brush units and a tanker. 32 Community responded with 1 brush unit and a tanker. 63 Dallas responded an engine for a company move up in our first due. 50 New Hope responded an engine company to station 22 Stanley for a company move up.Stanley Rescue sent a unit out for rehab and to help shuttle crews from staging back to their assignments.From Lincoln County we had Station 3 East Lincoln respond 3 trucks 32 33 and 39.We also had the NC Highway patrol and Gaston County police respond to divert traffic away from the scene.Forestry service had Forestry 2 and Forestry 1 respond from the NC Forestry Service.We had 75 personnel on the scene and are proud to say that there were no injuries.Also we want to thank the Country Corner Convenient store for sending the crews refreshments.Also there several firefighters wives and family that was relaying water to the crews and keeping them fresh.While we were responding to this call we had a tree fall across the road at Hwy 27 and Long Circle and we had a unit from Boger City pick that call up.Again we thank everyone for their hard work today.
